GIS (Geographic Information System) software in
conjunction with databases (SIS systems) and spreadsheets provides the
ability to run reports and view student and facility data graphically. GIS
software offers the following features:
- Provides a computerized means of counting students
within existing and proposed attendance boundaries by grade, ethnic,
school attended and other categories.
- Provides a means of reporting on students by
racial/ethnic, male/female and grade level distributions.
- Allows the user to count students within a radius of a
specified point.
- Allows user to color code the students to show trends.
- Produces annual projections of enrollment by grade
level and by school for a period of up to six years in the future.
- Utilizes new housing development data to augment the
enrollment projections.
- Provides drawings (visual representation) of school
facilities.
- Allows the user to color code the facilities to
identify older buildings, leased buildings, room use, etc.
- Allows the user to easily add, move or delete
portables.
- Automatically updates the facility database when the
drawings are changed.
- Expandable to include additional layers of information
such as deferred maintenance items, gas and electrical lines, evacuation
routes, computer inventory, etc.
- Allows the user to measure distances between locations.
- Allows the user to find the location of an address or a
specific student on the map and identifies the corresponding school of
attendance.
- Uses data from existing student information systems
- Analyzes facility adequacy by comparing each school
with standards set by the district. Support facilities included in
analysis are Library, Restrooms, Multi-Use, Kitchen, Gym, Showers/Lockers,
Administration, Small Group rooms, Storage, Site Acres, Parking and
Electrical Capacity.
- Indicates facility capacities based on State, District
or Year Round standards.
- Provides analysis of facility capacity compared to
projected enrollment to determine future facility needs and costs.
- Provides the ability for District staff to update the
data and reports as needed.
- Asset Value Report listing Estimated Replacement Cost
for each Facility.
- Land Use Analysis identifying which sites are over
loaded and those with additional space available.
